Oslo favoured by cruise ships

Oslo was Norway's most popular destination for foreign cruise ships in 2008, with 250,000 registered passengers. This is an increase by 26 per cent from 2007, says VisitOslo CEO Tor Sannerud.

This means that Oslo has overtaken Bergen as the most visited cruise harbour in Norway.

One reason is that Oslo is on the so-called Baltic route, and at the same time also part of CruiseNorway.

- Sixty per cent of the cruise vessels docking at Oslo will continue on to the Baltics, visiting Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallin, Riga and St. Petersburg. The remaining 40 per cent of those arriving in Oslo, will continue up along the Norwegian coast, says Sannerud.
