New cable cars for the Bergen Floybanen Funicular

It will take you to the top of the Floyen mountain to give you a spectacular view of the city of Bergen and its surroundings.
A few days ago, a new set of carriages were put into operation, after a total upgrading of the entire service this autumn.Floybanen has been fitted with new cable cars, tracks, engines and ticketing system. In addition, the three interim stations have been refurbished , while the lower station building retains its original, distinctive appearance.
This complete renewal has cost around NOK 46 million, and the main supplier is Doppelmayr Tramways Ltd of Switzerland.
The new carriages, in red and blue, which have been named Roedhette (Little Red Riding Hood) and Blaamann ( Blue Man - name of mountain near Bergen), are able to carry 100 passengers, compared with 80 previously. They provide substantially better comfort and have glass ceilings and large side windows to give the best possible view and enhance the experience.
The cars, which also have easy access for pushchairs and wheelchairs, were designed by the Norwegian industrial designer Espen Thorup.
