According to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corp (NRK), China has warned Norwegian authorites against an official reception of Tibetan releigious leader Dalai Lama when he arrives in Oslo in May.
Dalai Lama is arriving in Oslo on a private visit on May 7th, 25 years after he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the Norwegian capital.
Representative Qin Gang from the Chinese Department of Foreign Affairs said in Beijing on Wednesday that China is opposed to any coutry giving Dali Lama a platform for furthering his points of view.
This reaction from the China should not surprise anybody, says Foreign Minister Børge Brende.
The relations between China and Norway have been strained since the Norwegian Nobel Committee in 2010 awarded the Pece Prize to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo.
The Norwegian government has since then been hoping for improved relations with China, and is at this point undecided about whether or not any government representative should meet the Tibetan religious leader.
